Selective Catalytic Reduction: Exhaust aftertreatment for reducing nitrogen oxide emissions
ثبت نشده
چکیده
Ways to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions In order to comply with the increasingly tough emission standards worldwide, engine manufacturers are forced not only to substantially reduce emissions of particulate matter (PM), but also emissions of nitrogen oxides. The main approach pursued by MTU is low-emission combustion, in other words an internal engine solution. However, this means taking into account a basic principle that governs the process of combustion — if the fuel burns at a higher temperature inside the cylinder, little soot is produced, but a large amount of nitrogen oxide. At lower combustion temperatures, nitrogen oxide emissions are low, but the production of soot particulates is high. To find the right balance, therefore, all the key technologies that affect combustion must be perfectly matched. When combined with fuel injection and turbocharging in particular, the use of exhaust gas recirculation results in a combustion process that produces significantly lower levels of nitrogen oxide. متن کاملHeavy-duty truck emissions in the South Coast Air Basin of California.
California and Federal emissions regulations for 2007 and newer heavy-duty diesel engines require an order of magnitude reduction in particulate matter and oxides of nitrogen spurring the introduction of new aftertreatment systems. Since 2008, four emission measurement campaigns have been conducted at a Port of Los Angeles location and an inland weigh station in the South Coast Air Basin of Cal...
متن کاملModeling Transport Phenomena in Selective Catalytic Reductant Catalytic Converter with NH3 as Reductant for NO Degradation
In the current study, reduction of nitrogen oxide from exhaust gas in the presence of NH3 as reductant on selective catalytic reductant (SCR) impregnated catalytic converter was simulated using Comsol© software. Mass transfer (one-dimensional) and heat transfer (three-dimensional) governing equations were taken into account to model the unsteady state behavior of the catalytic converter. Modeli...
متن کاملNonlinear system identification with applications to selective catalytic reduction systems
The stringent regulations on the emissions levels of heavy duty vehicles create a demand for new methods of reducing harmful emissions from the engine. In order to be able to follow these increasingly stricter legislations, complex aftertreatment systems are used. Achievement of optimal performance of these systems requires accurate models that can be used for control design. As a result, the i...
